Dr. Agnieszka Rumież [Faculty of Architecture, PUT, Poznan]

Dr. Agnieszka Rumież’s research focuses on architectural theory and methodology. As a long-standing member of the Department of History and Heritage Conservation, her work centers on design strategies within strong existing contexts. She is particularly drawn to design methods that leverage intuition (improvisation) and has been developing these strategies in her teaching since completing her PhD. In addition, she works on modeling the valorization of cultural heritage and on systems of metrics for the green transformation of cities, employing artificial-intelligence algorithms in both cases through interdisciplinary research teams.

Dr. Rumież earned her degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from the Faculty of Architecture at Poznań University of Technology, then joined her alma mater as a researcher and academic lecturer. She served as the Faculty Coordinator for the Erasmus+ program. In 2018, she defended her doctoral thesis, “Improvisation as a Strategy in Architectural Design” and was awarded the title of Doctor of Technical Sciences, receiving the Minister of Development’s Prize for her work. In 2020, she also completed a bachelor’s degree in theoretical mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Adam Mickiewicz University. These mathematical competencies enable her to undertake projects that rely on multicriteria modeling.

Dr. Rumież is affiliated with the international organization Global Urban Development (GUD) and is an active member of the EDIT Poznań team, participating in the Green Campus (PUT Rector’s Grant 2024) and EDITUA (International DUT Call 2023) projects. She has authored over a dozen publications and presented at numerous international conferences.

Earlier in her career, she completed an architectural internship at the PPWK design office in Poznań. She now works as a freelance architect and interior designer, with more than 30 projects to her credit. Outside of design and research, she is deeply involved in the music scene as a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, co-founding the band WINDY alongside fellow architects from WAPP.
