MAGDALENA PĘKAŁA

MS Eng. Arch. Magdalena Pękała [Faculty of Architecture, Doctoral School PUT, Poznan]

 

 

Magdalena Pękała is a PhD student in Doctoral School of Poznan University of Technology in the Institute of Architecture and Physical Planning in the Faculty of Architecture.  In the years 2016-2021 she studied Architecture and Urban Planning in the Faculty of Architecture in PUT. In 2023 she finished the postgraduate studies “Spatial Planning in City and Region Scales” at the Faculty of Architecture in PUT. 

Currently she works as the assistant lecturer and researcher in the Faculty of Architecture Division of Urban Planning (PUT). She is an active member of the international research group of EDITUA Project (International DUT Call 2023). Since 2023 she has been a member of the Global Urban Development (GUD) and Polish Urban Planners Association (TUP). Recently, as a result of collaboration with Öko Campus Wien, she became a Speaker in Hochschule fur Biodiversitat Initiative (HIB). 

The areas of her expertise are multispecies urban spaces and urban wildlife refugia. Her ambition is to contribute to creating wilder cities focused on enhancing more-than-human relations and non-humans wellbeing. Her research project focuses on developing the methods for designing places for multispecies balanced cohabitation fostering spatial conditions for biodiversity and emergence of urban wildlife habitats in a district and neighbourhood scale.

In 2025 she did an academic research visit in Technische Universitat Wien (TUW) Landscape Research Unit led by Dr.in sc. prof. Susann Ahn and Dr.-Ing. prof. Thomas Hauck to explore multispecies design methodologies. In 2025 she co-organised with dr Agnieszka Rumież (PUT) and biodiversity specialist Isa Klee (HIB) Micro-habitecture DIY design workshop using the species as a client approach. As a part of the HIB Biodiversity Meeting in Vienna (06.06-08.06.2025) she led a hands-on urban fabrication laboratory workshop. 

As an urbanist, researcher, spontaneous artist and biodiversity activist she values multidisciplinary, innovative approaches.
